Don't buy this book because it's a waste of time and money
By Nhon Quach
I bought this book with the intention of really trying to learn the subject of antenna for base station. I got the book in 3-4 days (fast shipping by the book seller there) and after reading the book for 30 minutes, I have decided that the book is simply a waste of money and my time to read further. I was totally disappointed and want to warn you not to buy this book. I don't know how anyone can rate this book 5-star (or even 2-star for that matter). I would have given it a 0 star if that rating were available.

The book does not contain any theory on antenna or explains how antenna works. For any type of antenna, the book simply gives you an example of the antenna (with diagrams and sometimes photos) and shows you the radition(?) patterns. That's it. I could have gotte that information from wikipedia.

I am now looking for another antenna book to buy.

A Survey of the New Technologies
By John Matlock
The technology of radio communications has undergone tremendous changes in recent years. The advent of cell phones, wireless LANS, and other devices has lead to requirements for base stations that have grown in abundance as prices has fallen and volume has skyrocketed.

As is often the case in areas of rapidly changing technology this book has been developed to cover the full range of modern base station antennas. The book is written by a collection of researchers from around the world. This is about the only way an up to date book can be written until the technology stabilizes.

The book is broken down into the following nine chapters:

Fundamentals
Mobile Radio Systems
Mobile Communications: CDMA, GSM, WCDMA
Radio Base Stations
Enhancing System Capacity
Wireless Base Stations
WLAN (WiFi) Applications
Wireless Personal Area Networking (WPAN) including RFID/UWB Positioning.
