About the Author

Born in New Mouse City, Mouse Island, Geronimo Stilton is Rattus Emeritus of Mousomorphic Literature and of Neo-Ratonic Comparative Philosophy. He is the director of The Rodent's Gazette, New Mouse City's most widely read daily newspaper.

Stilton was awarded the Ratitzer Prize for his scoops on The Curse of the Cheese Pyramid and The Search for Sunken Treasure. He has also received the Anderson 2001 Prize for Personality of the Year. One of his bestsellers won the 2002 eBook Award for world's best ratling electronic book. In 2006 he won the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards and in 2008 he won the Cartoomics prize 'Beyond Comics'. In his spare time, Mr. Stilton collects antique cheese rinds. But what he most enjoys is writing books where he tells his fabmouse adventures!

A good book

Last week I read the First Samurai(comic)

This book is basically about a mouse who goes back in time and to Japan to protect the king from evil cats. The best parts are when there is a feast of food somewhere because thats normally where the comedy happens

The illustrations are very nice and colorful and they are supportive enough for you to be able to qu turn the mice and cats into people.

It's a good book and people who like comics and/or short stories may like it. I rate it 93.4% perfect.

I am happy to see Geronimo Stilton graphic novels in Kindle format. My kids use both 7" and 10" Android tablets with the Kindle App and they found the images too small on the screen of the 7" but very comfortable on the 10".
Nice to see a good price difference between the Kindle version and the print version available in store in Canada.
I would like to see French versions of these books on Kindle.

Best Adventure Ever!

I have been playing WFRP and other RPGs for over 25 years and I have to say that, in my opinion, The Enemy Within is the best campaign written for any game system out there. There is plenty of fighting for those that can't get enough hack and slash and enough intrigue to satisfy those that need a strong plot line. A great balance of everything needed to provide hours and hours of fun. I played this campaign back in the early 90s and am planning on running it again for my group. These books are a bit pricy but well worth it. They really shot up in price I noticed after the 3rd edition came out (which is a joke). The adventures can be run as separate adventures, but I strongly suggest that you string them together and play them out as a campaign.

Short Reading.

I bought this like many other people, expecting to learn something about autofellatio. Unfortunately, I consider most of this book fluff. Fluff, as in the author's own homosexuality, and testimonials from other people who can autofellate. Great in proving it can be done, but otherwise inconsequential. How do you autofellate? Maybe I'm just an advanced masturbator, but it was nothing I didn't know already. And exercise? Nothing I couldn't have figured out on my own.

Nonetheless, I'll keep the book around simply because it's easier following an exercise regimine somebody else has created rather than an arbitrary one of your own. Ha ha.

The only book I know of on the subject

I bought this book somewhere other than Amazon, but I am pleased to see that they carried it at one time. This book is out of print and is not likely to be available again as the author has passed away.
The subject matter is definitely unique. The author tells of his personal experiences and what it means to him, and then tells you some exercises to do the deed and also a compilation of videos depicting it, although it is a bit dated. Other interesting items are excerpts from case studies by doctors and psychologists, which I found informative and entertaining.
I liked it for the fact that it covers a topic nobody else has written about, but the author spends too much time discussing his homosexual exploits rather than the book's topic. This is a cheaply-done book and the photos are black and white and looked like they were photocopied. Don't buy it for the pictures.
Pehaps someone else should write a book on the subject...and Amazon could sell it.

What an experience.

Well what can I say, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the item and really get to grip with the basics of self fulfillment. Though initially quite hard, once I managed to grasp the principle I quickly mastered the correct technique. With a little work I soon got really big results. I recommend this book to anyone who feels he needs a change from the norm and though initially messy work it will change your life forever.

Needs More Technique

Just received Gemstone Settings last week, before promised date. Quickly flipped through and was excited to see excellent pictures and layout. I've been metalsmithing for 5 years so moved rapidly through the tools, gems, etc. overviews. Then got to the meat of the book. The introductions are laid out quite nicely, it's as you start to look for more details on fabricating the settings that the book starts to disappoint. At one point there is a good pictorial description of cold connections, but I bought the book for gem settings. I also have John Cogswell's "Creative Stonesetting" which is a wonderful book. Has very good verbal descriptions, but lacks the pictorial set-by-step. Frankly, its a bit beyond me and was looking for something more accessible. As an intermediate metalsmith, what I really long for is a book that doesn't start at the beginning steps and then stay there for a third of the pages. Certainly describe specialized tools, etc. for the particular subject matter; but I think its highly unlikely that someone is picking up a book on settings as an introduction to metalsmithing. You've probably done bezel settings and perhaps tube and are looking to build technique. Gemstone Settings was on the right track with photos and layout, but falls short in guiding you to new technique. Too bad it doesn't deliver on its potential.

Not What I Expected

While this book is full of information and beautiful pictures, I did not find it to be an in-depth study of gem-setting at all, as it was described to be. Perhaps if one is already an experienced jeweler, the lack of detail in showing/describing various procedures would not be a problem, but then I question why an experienced jeweler would be buying this book. In my opinion, the book tries to cover too much material and as a result, is skimpy on much-needed details regarding actual procedures. I am keeping the book as ultimately I'm sure I will find it helpful, particularly in the area of individual gemstone descriptions/traits, and because of the beautiful photography included, but the book will not be useful to me for learning in-depth procedures regarding gem-setting. It is a good overview of various techniques, but I need something truly in-depth. I feel the description of the book is very misleading.

Just when you think the title says it all...

Let me preface this review with a little about the author. Anastasia Young is from London, a graduate of the Royal College of Art and a working Designer and Jeweler. You may remember her previous publication for Interweave, The Workbench Guide to Jewelry Techniques.

There are a lot of gem setting books on the market but what I think sets this one apart is not so much the techniques pages but the chapters surrounding them.

The book is divided into four chapters...in Chapter One Young looks at design - the process (from inspiration to sketch) - the history of gem set jewels - the process of stone selection and what goes into choosing THE stone - Outsourcing complicated or tedious portions of a project - and the "how to's" of taking commissions.

Chapter Two - is all about the Gems - a fairly comprehensive Gemstone Directory with information covering availability, common treatments, care and handling of each stone.

Chapter Four - is the Reference material - measurement conversion charts - ring size charts and Mohs Scale. This section includes detailed diagrams of stone cuts and templates for settings.

....last but certainly not least - the Chapter the book is all about the Techniques Directory. This chapter begins with an in depth look at the tools used to set and finished with almost 150 pages of various tube setting to styles. Over 50 settings are covered from prongs to fancy settings that cover Tension and Cage setting.

With a Suggested Retail of $29.99 this book is well worth the expense and would be most ideally used by a student who picks it up to supplement a workshop or course.
